The Minority Health Roundtable came into existence in late 2005 when Summa Health System, The Ryan White Consortium, the East Akron Community House, and the Akron Health Department coming together to discuss programming and advocacy matters related to HIV/AIDS.  The group worked together for approximately six months and implemented a successful HIV/AIDS professional education session.

The group discussed the importance of outreaching to and educating the professional and lay community about HIV/AIDS and other diseases that are disproportionately impacting minority communities.  The group then invited leadership from the Native American Indian Cultural Center, Planned Parenthood, other hospitals, the Summit County Health District, local health associations (American Heart Association) to talk about minority health programming on a yearlong basis as opposed to a single month (April) focus.  This expanded group made a decision to enter into discussions with the Minority Health Fair committee to see if the two organizations could combine talent and resources to become more effective in minority health programming efforts.

In 2007, these two groups formally merged and have since adopted bylaws, a new mission and committee structure to guide how the Minority Health Roundtable conducts its business affairs.

Thanks to the efforts of Tracy Carter, Rick Lange, Davidcia Stubbs, Anna Davis and Chris Partis for realizing the need for such a consortium.
